Waqaa, my name is Tina Harness, my Yupik name is Cupell'aq, I'm a mother of 2 beautiful girls and a life long contemporary Native artist of Yupik and mixed heritage, raised between the rural community of Bethel, Alaska, and Southern California. I began beading at age 6, taught by my late Auntie, Tunaq. She sat me down with a tin of seed beads, dental floss, and a needle. This simple jesture sparked a lifelong passion for intricate beadwork, blending traditional and modern designs. I am a dedicated teacher who views beadwork as a form of tangible creative meditation. empowering others to incorporate micro-therapies (beading and art) into their everyday lives. This skill has helped me navigate the complexities of life in rural Alaska, surrounded by both "light" and "darkness"—traditions and addictions alike. My goal is to share this healing art with as many people as possible.
