Aleut / Unangam Tunuu

Growing up, I listened to my family speaking in Unangan tunnu, and they talked about my grandma weaving baskets. I tried weaving with green grass that Sofie Pletnakof taught me in the mid-1970s.
I have taught through the University of Alaska and at culture camps in Anchorage, Akutan, King Cove, Nelson Lagoon, and Sand Point. I love being able to teach to show children what we did in the past. I want to keep it going.
I have my work in the Museum of the Aleutians, and people from all over the state have my baskets. I’d like my students to be able to share and sell their work. My mom was the only Unangan female chief, Anesia Kudrin.
