I’m a Silver Hand Artist & Certified Tribal Artist, direct descendant of Chief Shakes VI & VII, named after my Great-Great-Grandmother whom was an activist for women’s and Native rights, her son William Paul was the first Native lawyer and state legislator that also won the AK Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971 that in turn formed the Native and tribal corporations with his brother Louis Paul. I design, knit and weave fiber crafts featuring ancient tribal designs that are rarely seen or used. I knit and weave my crafts using contemporary methods and make modern fabric crafts. The sacred, ancient designs are the same as the originals that can be seen on preserved fiber crafts and photographs; I want to help my tribe’s cultural art and designs to stay “alive” so I created patterns for crafts such as shawls, scarves, cowls, hats, etc. I also create my own knit and woven patterns of designs that complement and help interpret their meanings and stories behind the traditional art.
