My name is Marisa Ayngughaghhaq Kingikaq Taylor. I am a Sivuqaq Siberian Yupik artist, mother, grandmother, and a recovering alcoholic. Tapping into traditional crafting has been a vital part of my healing and recovery, reconnecting me with the strength of my ancestors. Raised in Savoonga by my grandparents, I learned the art of crafting by watching my great-aunt Angela Uwhaaya Larson and aunt Elaine Ratiis Kingeekuk. My great-grandmother May Aghhaaya Kingeekuk, a skilled seamstress, passed down this gift through generations. Using traditionally hunted materials, I create contemporary Sivuqaq wearables, honoring my heritage and the resilience of my people. Akuzipik is my first language, and through my work, I carry forward the spirit of my ancestors and the beauty of our homeland.
