Quill Work
Porcupine quillwork is artform unique to North America. The quills of a porcupine can be harvested from a live or deceased animal, often roadkill. Quills, which are composed of keratin, have a glossy quality and become pliable when moist. They can be flattened and sewn, folded or woven. Porcupine quills can be used as decorative material for regalia, moccasin tops, earrings and conceptual art.
