Janice is a member of the Tlingit and Haida nations and living on the traditional lands of the Taantakwaan people of Ketchikan Alaska. She loves to create Tlingit regalia and fashions using leather, fur, wool fabric, beads, abalone, dentalium shells and mother of pearl buttons.
Blessed to learn from wonderful people such as Esther Shea, Esther Littlefield and Maria Miller, Janice continues to create Regalia using the knowledge she gained from her mentors.
Influenced at an early age by her great grandmother Mary, who made beautiful moccasins in the old Indian village in Juneau AK.
In 2022 Janice won Best of Sewing and Best of Skin & Fur Sewing in the Sealaska juried art show, for her piece, “Great Grandmother’s Spirit” a beaded moosehide collar.
In Ketchikan Janice and her husband Richard Jackson collaborate with UAS Ketchikan to offer Native Arts workshops for youth every summer, with sponsorship from Tlingit & Haida.
